HELMUT LANG A/W 2001 SILK CANVAS CAR COAT WITH CALF SKIN COLLAR

One of my favorite HL collections, the season was focused on super sharp tailoring and this piece encompasses that focus. The coat features a square shoulder shape with set in sleeve front and raglan rear, the raglan floats away from the body with a gusset to allow full range of motion. The fabric is a silk canvas that was coated in a polyurethane making it water resistant, it has a beautiful drape that feels solid and soft all at once. The coat is stripped of details yet it’s the ones that are left that make it so special, the fabric, the shape, the collar with drum stitching, the way the interior pocket lines up perfectly to be accessible when buttoned. It’s an amazing piece I’m fortunate to own.
